This is a great link! Thanks David! What do you think about trying to find study abroad programs that are closer to home? I'm not sure how I feel about that one, but I do understand that the carbon emissions from air travel is a real issue...

This is so interesting! Thanks David, for posting it! I like the idea that the University has to encourage faculty and staff to video conference when possible. That said, I don't necessarily agree with the idea to find study abroad programs that are 'closer to home' than (their examples) Australia and China. What do you think?

This is defintely one of the fundamental issues with study abroad and sustainability- how can we promote study abroad, when we know that students will fly around the world emitting carbon like crazy?

Maybe universities should spend their resources looking into greeing the aviation industry...

I was wondering if the University of Maryland might be able to make reductions in other areas of their campus activities. Then again, I realize there is no easy way. Maybe they (and other institutions) should invest some time and money into greening the aviation industry?

It's an ongoing discussion...how can we travel sustainably when the act of "getting there" generates SO MUCH carbon output? Check out this website to compare flying to cruise-ship travel (which is even worse).
